The Art Workshop Program
About Art Workshop:
Since 1993, Immaculate
Conception’s Art Workshop program has help students discover and develop their
drawing and painting skills. Originally a lunchtime activity, AW expanded into
a more intense after-school program in 1999. Paintings and art projects from the program are visible in
our school lobby, throughout the school building, in the park outside the
building. In 2006, the Art Workshop Program was recognized by Today’s Catholic
Teacher magazine with the Innovations in Education Award for the paintings
“Images of Mary” and “Christ Our Lord.”
AW is held in a workshop format, offering courses in the
fall, winter and spring. AW students build their skills during the course. Beginning students work “eraser fee” and study line, composition, and value. When they are able to understand these concepts, they progress to more advanced mediums. All AW students are taught how to critique work and use their knowledge in the Group Critique part of the class, when students examine their work and the works of the other artists.
Classes will be held in the Immaculate Conception Convent, over a period of ten weeks. Students have the option of
attending either 5 or 10 classes during the semester.
There will be a show featuring the students' work at the end of the semester. Dates will be announced.
